Hello!
Having a family portrait for my bio pic is appropriate in this time in my life, as my family is so central to everything I create. That is me, on the far right in this picture.
My website has been inactive for a long time as I have been so immersed in raising our girls. So much of my creativity has been channeled into art for them, and for our home, crocheting blankets and sweaters, hand felting mobiles for over their cribs, or designing flyers for my husbands Expressive Arts Therapy Studio. And the countless hours spent on the things that will never be counted as art, but that I have learned is the most beautiful art of all. The art of spinning the mundane, the daily, and the (often) chaotic into the gold that lines our lives with meaning. Keeping the dishes clean, the sheets fresh, the dog prints scrubbed of the floors, flowers on the table from our garden, and a candle lit on the table for dinner every night. A younger version of me would have thought I have given up on my art, that I never “made it”, but I now know what so many have discovered before me, that the humble, simple acts that keep the humm of life buzzing along harmoniously (somewhat, most of the time) is the well from which all beauty springs.
Here, I have gathered a collection of my most recent pieces that I really enjoy.
I am a classically trained artist with an illustration degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. While I have worked in every art medium under the sun, I have recently been drawn to digital painting, as an illustrator, I love the crisp lines and luminosity that I can convey in this form. That said, I will never stop getting my hands dirty with actual paint, it is so fun to have options and to be able to create different effects.
Thank you for stopping by me site.
With Love,
Laura
